PSHE

At West Hill, we understand the vital role that the PSHE curriculum plays in the development of the knowledge, skills and attributes that our pupils need to manage their lives, now and in the future. At West Hill we foster a whole-school approach to PSHE that connects the pieces of Personal. Social, Health and Well-Being education through the Jigsaw programme. Pupils are taught emotional literacy, social and life-long skills, RSE and resilience in age-appropriate manner. Our aim is that we equip our pupils with the tools for happier and healthier lives, giving them agency to make their own way through the world.

Through PSHE our pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and manage their lives, both now, and in the future.

At West Hill School, we deliver the PSHE curriculum by utilising first-hand experience and sharing good practice. We expect all our staff members to be good role models for our children and have high expectations of them throughout.

The Jigsaw scheme of work reflects the needs of our pupils and is tailored to meet specific needs. Our teachers deliver lessons that equip pupils with a sound understanding of assessing risk as well as developing the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions as they progress through their educational career and into the wider world of work.

In addition to the Jigsaw programme weekly assemblies embed values and recognise those children  who have demonstrated values.

Weekly celebration assemblies focus on children who have demonstrated being Ready, Respectful, Safe.
